Dental Crowns

What are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are restorations that are designed to improve the strength and integrity of a tooth that has been compromised. If a tooth has become severely decayed, has had a root canal or has broken or cracked, you might be told that it needs a crown. The crown procedure is done quickly in our office when it is most convenient for you. Our doctors ensure that you’re receiving the dental care that you both want and need.

Why would you need a Dental Crown?

To determine if you need to have a dental crown placed, you’ll need to come in for an examination. The exam will help us determine if a crown is needed and if so, which material is best suited for your dental needs. Crowns come in many different materials and can be placed on any tooth in the mouth. Some of the reasons you may need a crown include:

  • A tooth has become severely decayed
  • A tooth has cracked, fractured or completely broken
  • The tooth has recently had a root canal
  • The tooth has a very large filling
  • You have a dental implant

What makes you a candidate for a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns are one of the most common restorations within the dental field. Crowns are placed every single day and they are made using high-quality materials. You can expect the crown to last for many years before needing full replacement. We can provide you with an exam to decipher if a dental crown is right for you.

What should you expect during the procedure for a Dental Crown?

The area that will be receiving a dental crown will be anesthetized to make the procedure more comfortable. The tooth is then shaped and filed down to make enough room for the crown to be placed on top. We will then take impressions which are used to design the temporary and permanent crown. The temporary is placed at your first appointment, but you’ll need to come back in to have the permanent inserted. The crown is filed down and checked for an even, comfortable bite before you can go home enjoying your new smile.

If you would like to have a dental crown placed or completely replaced, our office staff is here to take your call and can schedule an appointment for you to come in.
